2:47 pm - I wont need my face anymore after it's rawked off.
|
Woot:
So, I'm in Atlanta, Georgia, right now. Seeing, what will probably be one of the biggest shows of my young metalhead career. Megadeth headlines. They're pretty awesome, of course. But the real reason I'm here are for In Flames, Job For A Cowboy, and CHILDREN OF BODOM. CoB are among my top favorite bands. And I get to see them live! This will certainly make up for me missing Blood Brothers (now that I heard they broke up).
I stood in line for a little while, not realizing that I was 3 hours early. I hopped back in the van and chilled and found out there is a WiFi connection I could tap into. So, 3 hours can be dealt with.
It's been a weird weekend for me. I spent most of Saturday packing and cleaning up, and worked that night. It was busy as fuck (I work in a bar). I was friggin' tired, and couldn't drink, since I planned on driving over to Altlanta that morning after my shift. Drove 3 hours. Took a quick nap. Drove another 3. Arrived in Atlanta chip and cheery and ready to mosh. The show starts at 4ish and will probably last until the early morn. After a quick nappy-poo, I'll begin the 5 hour trek back home.

12:36 pm - Life and Times...
|
Since I don't really have much on a webnet connection anymore, and I rarely get in the mood to draw comics, I figured I at least keep you all posted on my life and its happenings. Saying "Hey" or "Sup" just doesn't seem to cut it anymore after long absences, am I right? A lot can happen in the course of a few days. Especially if you're me. But, you're not. Which sucks for you. I'm seriously.
But, as a start, I'd like to regale you all with a story. An origin story, if you will, of my origins. Why am I awesome? How did I become so awesome? Is there any way that I could bottle the awesome to sell to the masses? While these questions are stupid, the answers are quite maddening. Here goes:
Let's start with a tale from my childhood. I was about three years old and I decided it was time I hit puberty. My mother would look at me questioningly when I asked her about it, and thought I was too young to know what I was talking about. My father just laughed. But I knew all too well what needed to be done. I couldn’t wait for nature to take another 10 years; I had to take that shit myself. It was the summer of 1947. I had just finished beating the Nazis to end World War II. The weather was nice out. A very brisk air filled the sky. I had been working on a plan to confront Mother Nature, but that day told me to just go for it. And for it I did go.
I called 1-800-Collect for her number. But that bitch declined my call. I couldn’t believe Mother Nature did that, after I tried to save her on long distance. I googled her address. My computer exploded. Seems she was trying to avoid me. So I had to get her to come to me. What would get Mother Nature upset enough to come to me, you ask? Well, I took a dump in the sky. That sure got her attention, as she came right down. We stood face to face. Rather, face to knee seeing as I was only three and short. She laughed and knelt down. I didn’t even wait for her insults, I just bitch-slapped the hell outta her. She immediately became serious and struck my ass with lightning. Have you even been struck by lightning before? It sucks.
I coughed and began to think I was in over my head. I was going to need help. Using telepathy, I called out a favor an old friend owed me awhile back. Mother Nature stood over me, confident in my defeat. I took advantage of her misjudgment. I dragon kicked her shins out from under her, delivered a mighty elbow to her falling chin, and finished the combo off with an in-flight head butt so devastating I nearly cracked open my own skull. We were both sent flying in opposite directions. I was dazed. I came to with someone standing over me. He’d finally come: Buddy Lee. It was time for this tag team to take this bitch down.
I leapt up and together we charged Mother Nature, dodging the lightning bolts she hurled towards us. She began to lift the earth up to block us. Huge boulders rose up, and we simply punched through that shit. But that was just a diversion. Out of nowhere she grabs Buddy Lee and summons lightnings of such might that Buddy ignites in bright white light. She laughed maniacally at such a horrible rhyme. I needed a weapon. There were none in sight. I did the only thing I could do. I tore off my own arm to use as a club. I leapt into the air. I used the sun’s glare to hide attack. And with that, I began the bludgeoning. I brought that arm club down so hard she let go of Buddy and began to fling lightning bolts in all directions. Her body collapsed. In Buddy’s vengeance, he delivered the most cooter-ravaging knee-drop that I had ever seen. Her crotch just exploded. I continued to arm-beat the hell outta her. She couldn’t withstand the double team and gave up.
We stood back and let her gather herself. We had won. To me, she gave me my puberty. And to Buddy, she gave the power of Lee Dungaree. She turned, beaten, to retreat. I needed to show her to hold onto that fear for a long time, and did so with a 10-ton donkey punch. I hate sucker punches, but this is mother fudgin’ nature here, she earned that shit. Buddy and I hopped on our Harley’s and rode off into the sunset.
And so, this was my start. The life that follows this tale will be more epic than an apocalyptic battle between ninjas vs pirates vs robots vs zombies.

2:43 pm - Stuff ends...
|
So, it's official: my internet connection is dead. And I'm too poor to pay for my own. Right now, I'm trying to post at work in hurried fashion. I probably won't be doing dailies anymore, obviously, but I hope to still get a few comics up a week, or something. I don't know.
Anyway, here's your fix:

Seems my leeched internet connection is wavering. Whether I've been found out, or there are so many people gankin' this signal that it's not worth a damn anymore. I wanna keep the dailies up, so I hope I can find another connection elsewhere, maybe at work. -----------------------------------
News: A friend of mine is in a band called "A Decent Animal." They had their last show here in Charleston Saturday night. It was a great show and I'm a little annoyed that I didn't know he was in a band sooner. They're driving over to California as I type this, roadtrip-style. I wish them good luck and hope to see them again once I make it out to the coast. Check out the band's MySpace page.
But anyway, here's a kinda half-comic:

2:59 pm - So yea... I used to do comics.
|

I've decided to change my style a bit since my last batch of comics. I bought a set of grey scale brush pens, too. Perhaps in an effort to finally stick with constant updates. I kinda wanted to make a big splash back into the comic ring, but I can't help myself with these dumb little jokes. And while I'd love to be able to update daily, or even super-multi-daily (as in another attempt at 200 comics in 2 weeks) but while drawing them out, I really ran outta steam after just a few. So I'll try to post daily or so at whatever will I'm feeling like that day.
I'm going for a new look with my comics now. Instead of the penis-looking figures I used to do, I want to put effort into the final product. Emphasis on hands and clothes and hair. And grey scale color to bring the comic off the screen. I can easily add an overlay for further depth and it gives me more options with color and blah blah blah. So... uh... enjoy... or don't.
Note: I'm not cool enough to steal shoes from a cool kid.

10:22 pm - MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES
|
I finally got a chance to watch this movie. I've actually had it for some time now, but was never in the mood to watch it. It's hard to really explain this movie. The films is a sort of documentary of photographer Edward Burtynsky's work and travels. Look him up and he explains how his images bring to our attention of the industrialization of China has immensely changed the layout of the land. The title "manufactured landscapes" means just that. The movie is much more convincing of his ideas than his photography could ever be. Film is just a better media for this sort of thing. Though images are amazing, it's the affect of "how the land is transformed into this" that grabs you. It's stunning and visually emotional. I can't recommend this movie enough.

4:00 am - 4am and Idle
|
So what do you do early in the morning, all the bars closed, the social scene has died down to catch up on the reserves for the next day? Idle enough and you end up wasting time. So I sit here listening to some music pondering what I could be doing, but, instead, wasting this "time" on nothing more than surfing. Nothing really. Nothing at all. Maybe, just maybe, I'll catch soemthing that most of you all out there haven't caught onto yet. A video or a funny pic. Or maybe, I'll browse through and catch some inspiration from an online gallery that will send me spiralling to fill up my numerous sketchbooks with work.
So what do you do early in the morning?

3:58 pm - VERY interesting read:
|
Be sure to have plenty of free time before you start reading up on this stuff. Curiosity got a hold of me when I heard of a theory about the Mayan calender and the year 2012. I hit up Wikipedia to find out exactly what it was about. Some have equated that year, and a date in December, as the true apocalypse, both natural and religious. While others have ideas about the events during this time result in a type of evolution of Earth.
What started as a search on 2012, led to more searches about Earth's magnetic field reversing, a concept of a "noosphere," and the Olduvai theory.
This makes for a very interesting read. I find myself clicking deeper and deeper into numerous articles just to maintain an understanding of what is being explained.
If you're up for a long read, I suggest checking this out.

3:01 pm - Back In Business!
|
Hazaa! It seems that I've finally found an apartment I could afford! GLEE! No longer am I a homeless bum. Now I have a home and a good job. I can finally take daily showers and take dookies in my own bathroom! The rent is low. And the utilities are included. I've even talked with my boss to bump up my hours giving me some very much needed overtime. If this keeps up, I might be able to finally get outta debt! Ha! Just kidding. Capitalist America keeps us all down (unless you're in the top 1% of the population! Hooray!)
What else is great about this good fortune? I can finally continue with doing comics for all you fine fellow and ladies. Can't can't wait wait. I don't really have anything in store. I should have been fleshing out ideas and whatnot with all this time I have... but really nothing much came out. So, I'll just be winging it sometimes. Explosion? Yes please! I've missed a lot of drawing memes and hourly comic days and the like. I hope to get back in the game swinging. At least until I get bored with it again...
On a side note: Is it just me or have gas prices shot up insanely over the passed 2 weeks. And I swear one day it shot up 10 cents over night...

Dammit... this actually looks good. Why can't these successful franchises of our past stay how we remembered them? But hey, maybe, just maybe, everything will turn out all right.

Nothing brings more of a random, yet enjoyable, smile to my face that of Comeau and Horne of A Softer World. Whether catching up on the photo comic or getting ideas from Comeau's "Overqualified" job letters, they seem to go above and beyond my usual list of "webcomics-to-watch," for truly entertaining stuff. You should all give them a few minutes of your time, whether they want them or not.
